Description: Thousands of years of isolation on the island of Sri Lanka has allowed the Sri Lankan Leopard to evolve into a unique subspecies in an environment where it is the sole large predatory carnivore - unlike leopards elsewhere which have had to evolve around the habitats of the larger lions and tigers. As a result, it is not as shy and secretive as most leopards of Africa and the rest of Asia.
