Mosquito
Anopheles darlingi belongs to the subgenus Nyssorhynchus and is the most
efficient vector of New World malaria, being infected by both Plasmodium vivax
and Plasmodium falciparum. This species is widely distributed from northern
Argentina to southern Mexico and from western side of Andes to the Atlantic
coast. Most Anopheles darlingi populations are highly anthropophilic and
endophilic. This species has been incriminated in malaria transmission in
several countries, as Mexico, Venezuela, Equador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.
