Gaur
The Gaur, with its rich, dark coat, is one of the most attractive species of
wild cattle. Gaurs are native to India, prefering to live in secluded areas in
rainforests or brushland. They live in small groups of no more than twelve
individuals, spending their ddays grazing, resting and chewing their cud.
Gaurs get most of their food from grassy glades in the forest, but may also
graze on the grassy slopes skirting it if they need to. Despite the Gaur's
great size and bulk, it is quite agile, easily descending steep hills to water
or grass.
The gaur's main fear comes from
humans and domestic cattle, but its only natural predator is the tiger, and
then it is only the young calves that need worry. A gaur can easily gore a
tiger to death or crush it, and the tigers know this. They keep away from
adult gaurs.
