Title: Mudterrain.ztd
Post by: johnrn1 on June 25, 2012, 07:50:52 PM
If you were combining different uca's together in separate folders like fences, scenery, paths, etc. Where would you include the mudterrain.ztd when you open it to see the three files to include?  :bye

mudterrain.ztd is a hack. That means it overrides some file that comes with ZT. In this case, it overrides terrain/water.tga. There is no benefit in combining a hack with other ".ztd" files because there will be times when you want to use the file that comes with ZT and other times when you want to use the hack. So, in this case, when you want to use the mud terrain hack, you would put mudterrain.ztd in ZT's folders. When you want to use ZT's water terrain without seeing mud, you would remove mudterrain.ztd from ZT's folders.

On a side note, mudterrain.ztd was not done in an efficient way. It should only have contained water.tga (and, ideally, a new icon) since the other 3 files it contains are just copies of the ZT files. Besides being inefficient, that could potentially affect other hacks. For example, if someone was to create a terrain/tiletex.cfg hack, which is also included in mudterrain.ztd, then the mudterrain.ztd file might interfere with the other hack, depending on the order that ZT reads in the files from a single folder, which is unpredictable.

Personally I would not combine any hacks as there are some that can only be used if there are not other similar ones around. There are some badly made that overide others or cause conflicts with others or other ZT files.
If you combine them you might have trouble remembering what you have and where it is.

I thought I had posted a thank you here, but I guess I just walked away after the preview?? :wub2  Thanks for the info Fern and Jay. I am recovering zip files and trying to restore my dlupdate files. I came across this mudterrain and couldn't think of where I got it. It wasn't in my hack files. I sure won't use it.

BTW, in copying my diagonal fences again to my "My Combined Fences", is the diagonal midevil fence at ZT unleashed with the other diagonal fences?

:hugs1 :cheers

Unleashed only has some of the diagonal fences while Tek has them all. The medieval was a dragonrider club file so was only released at Tek. This link has most of them

Diagonal Fences (http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?topic=5235.0)

Don't forget that they are not true fences but scenery and would need an invisible fence if being used in exhibits.

Thanks Fern. And  I can never understand what it means when the description says: a "decorative working fence"??? Is it decorative? Is it a working fence for animals? crazy description!!!  :crazy :crazy

Exhibit fences work for animals and guests
Decorative (working) work for guests but not animals
Then there are Diagonals which are just a piece of scenery that does not work for animals or guests but are great for creating an illusion if used with an invisible fence.
And you can tell from the menu too as the diagonals all appear in the scenery menu.
Also very few people could make fences so any wall or fence that is wider than a tile will only be a piece of scenery.
