Allosaurus

At their peak in the Late Jurassic, packs of flesh-eating Allosaurus roamed
throughout much of North America, Africa, and Australia. A pack of hungry,
thirty-six-foot-long, two-ton carnivores arriving on the scene is enough to
frighten herds of larger dinosaurs. A pack of Allosaurus will cull the weak,
sick, or young members out of a grazing herd of Apatosaurus or Stegosaurus.
The Allosaurus pack works together to make the kill and protect themselves
from the rest of the prey's herd.

Ankylosaurus

Ankylosaurus, or "fused lizard," looks like a nightmarish cross between a tank
and a turtle. This four-ton dinosaur is low to the ground and covered in bony
plates and spikes. At the end of Ankylosaurus's powerful tail is a
wrecking-ball-like knot of fused vertebrae and dense bony tissue covered by
tough skin. The bony plates are fused to Ankylosaurus' skin and make it
virtually impervious to claws and teeth. The bludgeon of a tail is also for
self-defense. For all its fearsome appearance, though, Ankylosaurus is another
peaceful plant muncher.

Animal Type: apato

Apatosaurus

The Apatosaurus ("deceptive lizard"), a.k.a. the Brontosaurus, is one of the
largest land animals to ever walk the earth. Adult specimens can grow up to 90
feet long and weigh 38 tons. Its tiny two-foot head has nostrils on the top,
although it is not an aquatic dinosaur.  The small jaw contains blunt teeth
and thick lips for stripping foliage, which would then be swallowed whole.
This small head is attached to a forty-foot long neck. A fifty-foot tail
balances the weight of this long neck. Apatosaurus can use its tail as an
extra leg to pull food towards itself while grazing. Apatosaurus walks on all
four legs, the back two being slightly longer. All four legs have thick padded
feet to support the Apatosaurus's enormous weight.

can also drop to all fours to browse for low-lying vegetation such as cycads.

appeared in what is now the southwestern United States around 220 million

for agility and speed. Hunting in packs, Coelophysis will make a meal of any
small creature unfortunate enough to get in their path--including immature
members of their own species.

Meiolania are the largest land turtles ever to walk the face of the earth.
Becoming extinct only recently in comparison to the dinosaurs, Meiolania trod

humans arrived. Although the Pleistocene is widely known as the Ice Age,
Meiolania's home ranges of Australia and South America were not as quickly and
dramatically altered as lands in the Northern Hemisphere. This probably
allowed Meiolania to flourish as a species for longer than many of its early
contemporaries.

At one time considered the earliest dinosaur to ever live, Herrerasaurus, or
"Herrera's lizard" was named for a rancher in Argentina, where the dinosaur's
fossils were first discovered. Although rather small in comparison to its
later relatives like T. rex, at ten feet in length, Herrerasaurus was plenty
big for its time and was a dominant carnivore. It was also the first to evolve
many important adaptations which predatory dinos continued to possess for
millions of years.
