Title: Where is My Downloads Folder
Post by: Yellowrose on July 08, 2006, 07:36:57 PM
Before you can see the downloads folder for Zoo Tycoon 2 you must do 2 things.

1) make sure all files and folders are visible on your system as these are hidden folders.

To do this open windows explorer and click on tools/ folder options
Click on the View tab

Look for Hidden files and folders

Make sure there is a check in the Show hidden files and folders box

Before closing this off also just below this area you will see Hide extensions for known file types. Make sure this box is unchecked.

once both are complete click Ok to close it off.

2) Now that you can see hidden folders on your system to see a downloads folder you must first start your ZT 2 game and download some of the downloadable content from the Official Web Site. Once you have done this the game will create a downloads folder.

You CAN NOT create a downloads folder yourself as the game will not recognize it.

All downloads should be placed in the zootycoon_com_zt2_1033 Folder to work properly

Edited by Jay to remove the reference to the zt2downloadsfolder3zj.th.jpg image, since the linked site no longer has that image.

:help When I click on Tools, I don't get Folder Options on the drop down list. I have looked at all the other methods to download files, so please don't recommend them to me because they don't work!! However, I downloaded all three files from Zookapi using C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2 and it worked. Will this be the same for Zoo Admin downloads? if not have you got any better suggestions? Thanks!

Well the thing about the downloads folder is that if the file doesn't have an accompanying .dl file then it HAS to go into the folder you are using. The .dl file makes the game recognize it in the ZT2 folder

That's weird because I was told on Zoo Admin to delete the .dl file if it came up... I tried the Somalian Wild Donkey with the .dl file and it worked, so should I continue with this?

You delete the .dl if you plan on putting it in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2 folder because then its doing you no good.

Have you double-check that all of your files are visible? By default, some of these are invisible.

Hi folks,

My daughter got ZT2 with her allowance (she is 9) and since then we have both become addicted, and I have bought MM and ES for her!

Anyway, the downloaded Animals look great! However, I have a unique situation. I am posting from work. I live very rurally, and at home we have a slow dial up connection. (MAYBE 31.5kbps on a good day) Therefore, trying to do a download through the software is probably going to be unsuccessful. I can download the animals from here and put them on a stick.

So, if downloading through the software is likely a bad idea (I cannot run games, etc that have a regular patch or update from home, because I cannot download them.), how to apply the files into the program?

Just so you know, I am a tech analyst for a software company, so I understand how this works and if you get technical I'll be fine.

Obviously there are compressed files with a bunch of different files within, the animations and so forth. Where is the final location? Program files\zoo tycoon 2? Do ALL files eventually get extracted to the same locale?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Nancy

Nancyj.....

Downloading them onto your stick and carrying them to your home computer works, as I've done it many times.  All you will need to do is have an unzip utility on your home computer to open up the files before you put them into the appropriate folder.  Just follow the above procedure outlined by Yellowrose and you'll be fine.  Good luck and let us know how it turns out!  Happy zooing!

I download them right but how do I get them into the game? I try dragging them into the downloads file, but it doesn't work. I need further instructions.

Do you copy and paste it into the downloads folder? Or drag and drop? Because everytime I do it (either one), it says 'write this file to cd?' and if I click yes, you can't write the file to the cd because it's full or something. It is the 1033 file right? Oh and one more thing: when I want to download something (anything), I get to files. one that's .dl and another that's .z2f . which one do I use? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

The easiest way to install the downloads is to copy and paste them into the folders on your hard drive not try to add them to the ZT cds.

When you downloaded all the official downloads it created a downloads folder on your hard drive. In that downloads folder is another folder with 1033 in it's name that is where you add your downloads for me, and it may different for you depending on how your system is set up.

When you download a file it is in .zip file format and needs to be extracted to the desltop. Depending on who made the file they make the zip files different sometimes with extra folders. I found downloads work best if you have just 1 folder usually with the animals name and 1 .dl file.

An example is Exitree's Carcal

I downloaded the file and extracted it to my desktop

I looked until I found a folder named Carcal and inside that folder was the carcal.z2f file
I put that folder aside and looked for the carcal.dl file
I then used copy and paste to put the carcal folder and the carcal.dl file in the 1033 folder.

Some people found that this method didn't work on thier system so another way to add files to your game is to copy and paste the carcal.z2f file(no folder just the file) and the carcal.dl file into your Main Zoo Tycoon 2 folder usally found on main drive.

for me my main drive location would be
C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon 2

Hope this wasn't too confusing and it helps you to get your downloaded files working. For installing varient skins they go into the main ZT 2 folder as well. For objects and buildings we'll have to wait until Penguinman can see this because I haven't added any objects or buildings to my ZT 2 yet.

When you first install the game to be able to get the downloads folder to regester within the game program you need to start the game and use the ingame downloader to add all the available official content. As long as the game is available Microsoft will make the content downloadable from one of their servers even if the official site closes.

Welcome. :bye

I do not have ZT2. But this is my understanding from reading the above posts. If you downloaded caracal.zip from Zoo Admin, inside caracal.zip is the following:
Exitree's animals/Caracal/
Exitree's animals/Caracal/Caracal.z2f
Exitree's animals/Caracal.dl
Exitree's animals/

You would put these in your ZT2 Downloads folder like this:
C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\Downloads\zootycoon_com_zt2_1033\Caracal\Caracal.z2f
C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\Downloads\zootycoon_com_zt2_1033\Caracal.dl

If that does not work, then try this:
C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\Caracal.z2f
C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\Caracal.dl

I hope that helps.

Welcome to ZTCDD. :bye

Right above the "Click Site name to reach the download" line, there will be 1 or more web site names. For example, it might say "ZT Designer Guild". So you would click that web site name to get to the download.

hi mill022

like jay says, when you click the link you should end up at the correct page of the website.  If you get an error message of some sort then you may have to log in to the specific site to be allowed to download at that site.

Could a link to a video explaining how to do this be a little easier? The above steps don't work. Nothing shows up in the game.
