Description:  The West African dwarf crocodile (Osteolaemus tetraspis) is found throughout the rainforests of central Africa. It inhabits permanent pools in swamps and areas of slow-moving freshwater in rain forests. It is a nocturnal species which spends most of the daylight hours in burrows which it digs. These burrows are sometimes partially submerged, with the entrance under the water surface.

West African Dwarf Crocodile

The West African dwarf crocodile (Osteolaemus tetraspis) is found throughout
the rainforests of central Africa. It inhabits permanent pools in swamps and
areas of slow-moving freshwater in rain forests. It is a nocturnal species
which spends most of the daylight hours in burrows which it digs. These
burrows are sometimes partially submerged, with the entrance under the water
surface. West African dwarf crocodiles emerge from their burrows at night to
forage close to the water or on land in forested areas. It feeds on fish,
amphibians, crustaceans, and small terrestrial animals. The West African dwarf
crocodile is more terrestrial than any other crocodile species.
