Nordic Brown Bear

The brown bear is the most widespread bear species. They can be found over
most of Europe, and northern Asia. The most stable populations of brown bear
are found in  Russia. Only four populations of brown bear remain in central
and western Europe: in the Cantabrian Mountains of Spain, the Pyrenees
Mountain Range, the Alps, and the Abruzzo Mountains of Italy. Some populations
exist in Scandanavia and in the Catharpan and Balkan mountains. In Asia, the
bear population is declining rapidly to to extensive hunting for their body
parts. However, there is still a large population in the Japanese island of
Hokkaido.
