Description: This animal will add interest to any zoo. Diatryma is one of the giant hunter birds which lived in North and South America. Eats little animals, like rodents, reptiles, little ungulates, baby saber toothed cats and birds. Diatryma have a size up to 2 meters, a beak like a parrot and the body of a ostrich. During Eocene to Pleistocene, various species of these type of bird,lived in the Americas. The wings are reduced and don't have the ability to fly. Diatryma are very fast runners. With new species of predators, like man, cats and other flying birds, like Argentavis, Diatryma and the other species of this type of hunting plains bird, became extinct.

Diatryma

Diatryma is one of the giant hunter birds lived in the Noth and South
America.Eats little animals,like rodents,reptiles,little ungulates,baby saber
toothed cats and birds.Diatryma have a size up to 2 meters,a peck like of the
parot and the body of a ostrich.During Eocene to Pleistocene,various species
of these type of bird,of Phorusrhachidae and Diatrymidae lived in the
Americas.Diatryma live in the Oligocene to Plesitocene and are more commonly
in souths of Americas.The wings are reduced and don?t have the capacity of
fly.Running,the Diatryma are very faster.With news species of predators,like
the man,cats and flying birds,like Argentavis,Diatryma and the others species
of this type of hunting plains bird,are extinct.
