South Island Goose

The south island  goose (Cnemiornis calcitrans) is big with a back height of
65 cms and a length of head to tail of 85 cms very much. The legs are
relatively short and strong. The south island goose (Cnemiornis calcitrans)
lived rather in the dry areas in the east of the south island of New Zealand
with a mosaic in bushes, herbs and wood. She lived on short grass and herbs at
places where the sheet roof is interrupted and in riversides in woods. The
eggs were collected by people and the adult animals were hunted. Fledglings
and eggs can be caught by rats. Also the change of her living space
contributed to her extinction in pre European time. Also with the south
island-gigantic goose (Cnemiornis calcitrans) a very distinctive
Sexualdimuorphismus is with regard to the body height.
