Updated December 14, 2025 by fern and Jay to prevent this from crashing non-English versions of ZT, to link to ZT's sounds directly instead of having copies, to show the preferred object tooltip for females and young, to make a slight adjustment to the animal's tooltip, to have it play sounds as much as ZT's zebra, to give more time for ZT to notice if it is hit by a tranquilizer dart, and to remove unnecessary files and configuration lines.

Wow, A Melanistic Zebra! They certainly are rare. The Melanistic zebra is a genetic mutation of the plains zebra, which appears darker than the usual plains zebra because its body produces too much of a gene called "melanin". These creatures are rarer than the albino and are a real challenge to breed! Enjoy!

recognize a melanistic zebra because their bodies produce far too much of the
pigment known as melanin which makes them much darker than your average zebra.
