Description: The rock wallaby belongs to the same marsupial family as the kangaroo: Macropodidee. The rock wallaby lives in the rocky deserts and the high mountain ranges of the Australian outback. The wallaby shelters in deep, hidden crevices in the rocks. The rocks leading to the hiding places are often warn smooth by generations of wallabies using the same trail. Some species of rock wallaby are no larger than a hare, while others reach 2 to 3 ft in height. These animals provide interest to any zoo.

Rock Wallaby

                                           The rock wallaby belongs to the
same marsupial family as the kangaroo: Macropodidee. The rock wallaby lives in
the rocky deserts and the high mountain ranges of the Australian outback.  The
wallaby shelters in deep, hidden crevices in the rocks.  The rocks leading to
the hiding places are often warn smooth by generations of wallabies using the
same trail. Some species of rock wallaby are no larger than a hare, while
others reach 2 to 3 ft in height. All rock wallabies have long, strong tails
used for balance, powerful hind limbs, large ears, and short forelimbs.
Resting during the hottest part of the day, this mammal feeds on roots,
grasses, bark and leaves in the early morning and late afternoon. Rock
wallabies must often travel for considerable distances from their rocky
terrain to find appropriate food. Rock Wallabies can live up to 14 years in
captivity.
