Three Decorative versions of ZT exhibit fences

ZT Designer Guild

Click Site name to reach the download

Author: graphics-Blue Fang; config-fern
Keywords: decorative fence
Compatibility : All Game Versions
Description: Decorative versions of ingame exhibit fences. The problem with using exhibit fences to decorate zoos is that, if the fence completes a circuit (like surrounding a tree), it will create a gate and add an exhibit to the exhibit list. So I have created a decorative form of this wall. It will show in the Fences menu as a separate entry.
Note: these link to the original ingame graphics

Combined Menu Filter Names

Author: Jay

Keywords: Menu Filter Names

Date Released: July 15, 2025

Updated: July 22, 2025 by Jay to add "Forest/Jungle" to the menu filter list.

Current ztd date: July 22, 2025

zip File Size: 931 bytes

Compatibility: DD, MM, and CC

Description: DD, MM, and CC come with a Menu Filter in many of the purchase menus, as well as the staff and research menus. The Menu Filter is set to "All" by default when starting new zoos. The "All" can be clicked and an expansion pack can be selected. In MM and CC, it allows selecting "All", "Zoo Tycoon", "Dinosaur Digs", or "Marine Mania". Then the purchase menu will show only things that came with one of those. For example, if "Marine Mania" is selected, the Animals purchase menu shows only animals that come with Marine Mania.

In 2002, Mark Bell showed how people could add their own entry to that Menu Filter for personal use. Even though it was intended for personal use, some people added entries to that Menu Filter and released their versions. Although each one could be used individually, they all had problems that prevented having multiple user made entries at the same time.

The attached combinedMenuFilterNames.ztd corrects the problems and allows having multiple user made entries at the same time.

In addition to the original 7 user made entries, it adds another 8. Others can be added to it in the future. With the current combinedMenuFilterNames.ztd, the Menu Filter will show what is in the image. "03 CExp" was used by things in the ZA 2003 Christmas pack. "Baby Tycoon" was used by various "Baby Tycoon" packs at ZA, where young animals were used as adults. "Brick/Atlantean" is new. Eventually it is intended to include user made things that have a Brick, Atlantis, Atlantean, or Atlantia theme to them. "Contest Objects" is new. No released downloads will use that. For some contests, combined ".ztd" files are provided. When those are created they may be configured to be shown in "Contest Objects", allowing them to be found more easily. "Fan Favorites" is new. If people say they use a certain ".ztd" for many zoos, we will see if we can configure it to be in "Fan Favorites". "Forest/Jungle" is new. Eventually it is intended to include user made things that have a Forest, Jungle, or Rainforest theme to them. "Light Sources" is new. For things made or updated in the future, if it is an object that looks like it gives light, it could be configured to be in "Light Sources". This could include user made things such as campfires, candles, fire, flames, lamps, lanterns, lights, lighthouses, streetlights, and torches. "Marks Objects" was used by Mark Bell for some things he made. "My Favorites" is new. No released downloads will use that. This goes back to Mark Bell's original idea of letting people have an entry for their personal use. People that want to do this for personal use have to be comfortable with editing ".ucs", ".uca", ".ucb", and ".ai" files that are in ".ztd" files. They would add "myfav" to the [Member] section of those files for things they want in "My Favorites". "Snow Tigers" was used for some things made at ZA by the Snow Tigers group. "User Food/Drink" is new. For things made or updated in the future, if it sells food or drinks, it could be configured to be in "User Food/Drink". "User Gifts" is new. For things made or updated in the future, if it sells gifts or gives prizes to guests, it could be configured to be in "User Gifts". "Wild Wings" was used for things in RSN's Wild Wings pack. "Zoo Tek" was used for some old downloads at Zoo Tek. It was intended to be for some things that were only available at Zoo Tek. "Zooty Zootycoon" was used for some things at JBL's Zooty Zootycoon web site, which no longer exists.

Instructions: Before using combinedMenuFilterNames.zip, MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd and LANG--CombinedMenuFilterNames.dll should be installed. LANG--CombinedMenuFilterNames.dll must be dated July 22, 2025 or newer. They are available at the following ztcdd links:

http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?topic=13122.0

http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?topic=13123.0

Once those are installed, extract combinedMenuFilterNames.ztd from combinedMenuFilterNames.zip. Although this could be placed in the dlupdate folder, a better place to put combinedMenuFilterNames.ztd is in a favorite folder, so that dlupdate can be used for ".ztd" files that are moved in and out for different zoos. If you do not have a favorite folder in your ZT folder yet, the above link for MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd says how to set it up.

If any of the following user made files are in any of ZT's folders, remove them, since they are no longer needed:

ui-zootek.ztd
ui03CExpMenu.ztd
ui99.ztd
uiBabyTycoon.ztd
uisnowtigers.ztd
uiWW.ztd
xpac77.cfg
xpac99.cfg
ZZMenuhack.ztd

Note for ZT designers: As you create things in the future, you can have your object appear in one or more of the Menu Filter entries. With the current combinedMenuFilterNames.ztd, here is the list that appears in ZT's menu filter, and what keyword to add to the [Member] section to make the object appear in that menu filter entry:

All
Zoo Tycoon: zoo
Dinosaur Digs: dinosaur
Marine Mania: aqua
03 CExp: 03
Baby Tycoon: BabyTycoon
Brick/Atlantean: brickatl
Contest Objects: contest
Fan Favorites: fanfav
Forest/Jungle: forest
Light Sources: light
Marks Objects: mark
My Favorites: myfav
Snow Tigers: Snow Tigers
User Food/Drink: userfood
User Gifts: usergift
Wild Wings: RSN
Zoo Tek: zootek
Zooty Zootycoon: zootzoot

The "Zoo Tycoon" one is a special one. In addition to things with "zoo" in the [Member] section, ZT automatically includes all things in the "All" list that are not in any other menu filter list, including user made ones.

More than one of the menu list keywords may be in the same [Member] section. That allows an object to appear in more than 1 list. As new things are made or as old things are updated, any applicable keywords can be added to their [Member] section. userfood is for anything that has "food" or "drink" in its [Satisfies] section. usergift is for anything that has "gift" or "fungift" in its [Satisfies] section. brickatl is for anything that has Brick, Atlantis, Atlantean, or Atlantia in its purchase menu name or ztd file name. There might be other things that can go into that list if it looks like their images apply, so it is okay to add others. forest is for anything that has Forest, Jungle, or Rainforest in its purchase menu name or ztd file name. There might be other things that can go into that list if it looks like their images apply, so it is okay to add others. light is for anything that is a light source, such as campfires, candles, fire, flames, lamps, lanterns, lights, lighthouses, streetlights, and torches. It is okay to add dinosaur or aqua if something looks like it has a DD or MM (or tank) theme to it. Usually there is no need to add zoo to the [Member] section, since that is the default list when there are no other keywords. Although BabyTycoon is an old user made keyword, it may also be added for other animals where young images are used for the adults. Although zootek is an old user made keyword, it may be added for things that are intended to be only at Zoo Tek Phoenix.

fanfav would be added for those where people say it is their favorite. Those would be updates of existing files.

myfav and contest should never be in released files. myfav is reserved for people to update files they have for personal use. contest is reserved to be used in combined ztd files made specifically for contests.

03, mark, Snow Tigers, RSN, and zootzoot are old user made keywords that are unlikely to be used for new things, but there might be times where it is appropriate to add them when updating old things.

Utilities, Resources, and Hacks / Menu Filter Scrolling Hack
Last post by Jay - July 15, 2025, 05:05:50 AM
Menu Filter Scrolling Hack

Author: Jay

Keywords: Hack

Date Released: July 15, 2025

Current ztd date: July 5, 2025

zip File Size: 9.03 KB

But ZT's menu filter has room only for ZT's 4 entries. So Mark also provided a hack to expand the menu filter to allow 5 entries. Even though it was intended for personal use, some people added entries to that Menu Filter and released their versions, all using Mark's hack. The problem with that is only 1 additional entry can be added, so the various user made entries cannot be used at the same time.

The attached MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd corrects that problem. I expanded the Menu Filter box to be almost as tall as the purchase menus, easily having enough room for all the current user made entries. In addition, if it gets to the point where there are more entries than can fit in the window, the up arrow and down arrow can be used to scroll through the entire list, no matter how many there are. This is a hack of ZT's xpac.lyt file. So it cannot be used at the same time as any other xpac.lyt hack. Besides the hacks made for the above (which are no longer necessary), the only other xpac.lyt hacks I know about are particleUI_DreamEmerald_v1.ztd, particleUI_DreamEmerald_v1-PlusMoveablePurchaseMenu.ztd, and particleUI_LostAmethyst_v1.ztd.

Instructions: Extract MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd from MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.zip. Although this could be placed in the dlupdate folder or a hacks folder, the best place to put MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd is in a hacks2 or hacks2-unused folder. That allows having particleUI_DreamEmerald_v1.ztd, particleUI_DreamEmerald_v1-PlusMoveablePurchaseMenu.ztd, or particleUI_LostAmethyst_v1.ztd in a hacks folder, if you use any of those ".ztd" files. If you do not have a hacks2 or hacks2-unused folder in your ZT folder yet, here is how to set it up, which only needs to be done one time:

1. The zoo.ini file in ZT's main folder needs to be edited. Just to be safe, copy that zoo.ini elsewhere to save as a backup. Depending on how your MS Windows is set up, you might not see the ".ini" part of that file name. If you see 2 files called "zoo", the smaller file is zoo.ini.

2. The zoo.ini file can be edited with any text editor, such as WordPad. The Notepad program can be used instead of WordPad, but WordPad is a little more powerful. As an example of starting WordPad in Windows XP, click start->All Programs->Accessories->WordPad. Starting WordPad in other versions of MS Windows could be different. In WordPad, click File->Open. In the "Open" window, go to ZT's main folder. To do this on my computer, I clicked "My Computer", double-clicked "Local Disk (C:)", double-clicked "Program Files", double-clicked "Microsoft Games", and double-clicked "Zoo Tycoon". I then changed the "Files of type:" setting to "All Documents (*.*)". I then clicked "zoo.ini" and clicked the Open button.

3. There is a line in zoo.ini that starts with "path=". The line is different, depending on the ZT version and whether you have edited the line before. If the line has not been edited before, it looks like this for CC:
path=./dlupdate;./updates;./xpack2/loc;./xpack2;./dupdate;./zupdate1;./xpack1/loc;./xpack1;./zupdate;./loc;.

No matter how the line looks, we want to add "./hacks2;" close to the "=". Although not necessary for MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd, it would also be useful to have "./mapmaker;" before "./hacks2;" in case you ever want to edit maps, and it would also be useful to have "./hacks;./favorite;" after "./hacks2;" to allow for other hacks and for favorite ".ztd" files. So you would click right after the "=" and type: ./mapmaker;./hacks2;./hacks;./favorite;
In my case, that line now looks like this:
path=./mapmaker;./hacks2;./hacks;./favorite;./dlupdate;./updates;./xpack2/loc;./xpack2;./dupdate;./zupdate1;./xpack1/loc;./xpack1;./zupdate;./loc;.

4. Save the change inside the zoo.ini file. To do this in WordPad, click File->Save. Then close the WordPad window.

5. In ZT's main folder, create a new folder called: hacks2

6. Put MenuFilterScrollingHackByJay.ztd in the hacks2 folder you created in step 5.

Once the above setup is done, if you ever want ZT not to see the files in the hacks2 folder, rename the hacks2 folder to hacks2-unused. To have ZT see those files again, rename the hacks2-unused folder back to hacks2.
