Real animal originally created March 2003
"The African gold cat is a medium sized cat on the small side. Adult males weigh only 11-12 kg. The African gold cat has both reddish brown and greyish color form and its coat can be both plain or spotted. The African species tend to be more spotted."

Updated September 2008 by fern
It was updated to remove unused files from the ".ztd", to fix some of the spacing and spelling mistakes in the animal info, to remove unnecessary lines in the configuration, to show the foliage tooltip for the female and young, to set it as nonjumping since it does not have jumping graphics, to have it use young jaguar sounds since it is the size of young jaguars, and to have it like itself, others of the Cat family, and rainforest items to match its habitat setting.

*Note:
While this animal appears in the rainforest menu, it does not like rainforest terrain. Since this was part of the original animal design we have not changed this as it would affect any previously saved zoos.
"Whenever an animal is selected in the animal purchase menu of ZT, a habitat icon is shown for that selected animal. This icon indicates a habitat where that animal likes much of the foliage and rocks. For example, if the habitat icon is for Savannah, that animal will like much, although not necessarily all, of the Savannah foliage. The habitat is not related to terrain. For example, an animal might like Savannah foliage but not like savannah terrain. This is not considered a problem. Sometimes that situation occurs due to the limitations of ZT configuring."

African gold cat

The African gold cat-real march o3 By ZooGirl-ZooKingdom he african goldcat is
a mediumn sized cat on the small side.Adult males weigh only 11-12 kg.The
african goldcat has both reddish brown and greyish colorform and its coat can
be  both plain or spotted. The african species tend to be more spotted.Dispite
a strikingly simularity to the asian goldcat, may belive they are not closely
related. The african gold cat has never been formally studied so not much is
known about its behavior. It is reportedly to be nocturnal and to rest in trees
during the day it may also hunt in trees to some exstent. But probably hunts
mostly on the ground. Some of there prey include rodents and injured
primates. They prey on mainly small size to midsize mamals.including tree
hyraxes, the  larger rodents.also smaller forest antelopes. On the contrary they
found small rodents to be more important .Some stomachs exsamined showed small
birds, monkeys, rodents, and birds in scats exsamined.and some found fish as
well.Although there have been reports on predatation on  domestic animals
including chickens, goats, and sheep such predatation seems to be rare.
Biology-acording to the pygmies of  north east
Zaire, one Katembo also found one babie fell from tree  and one in a hollow
log.The prmary habatat of the african gold cat is the moist forest of
Equatorial africa including mangrove and alpine bamboo forest.Golden cats can
penetrate savanah grasslands along belts of riveeine forest.and so there
distrubution probably extends beyond that.few have been found in the arrid
areas of africa.golden cats adapt well to logged areas,as the destruction of
the canopy favors the dense secondary which they are adapted from.some reports
say it has been found in the congo as well. The golden cat has been reported
being found in up to 3,600m and in Kenya's moutains.Small patches of the
golden cats skin have totemic value for wrapping things in.Because of taboos
many people are prevented from discussing the animal directly. It is fully
protected.Hunting is prohibited in
Angola,Benin,Burkina,Faso,Congo,Kenya,Liberia,Nigeria,Rwanda,sierra,Leone and
Zaire.Hunting is regulated in Gabon,Liberia, and tongo.
Princaple threats are-Savannization in west Africa has
probably led to poplulation declines and fragmentation, unless there is
migration  along riverrine corrodoors.            Enjoy ZooGirl and
