Description: The Amur leopard is also called Far East leopard, Manchurian leopard or Korean leopard. It is often confused with the snow leopard, because they look similar. In the summer the hair of its pelt are 2.5 cm long, but in the winter they are 7 cm. The colour is light in winter, but changes to a reddish-yellow in summer. The rosettes of its fur are more widely spaced with thicker borders compared to other leopard subspecies. Its legs are also longer, possibly because it has to walk through snow. Adult males usually weigh 32-48 kg, but exceptionally large males may weigh up to 75 kg. Females are smaller and weigh around 25-43 kg.

The Amur leopard is he northernmost subspecies of the leopard living in temperate forests and harsh winters of the Russian Far East. It lives in Eastern Russia, Northern China, and probably North Korea. The main prey species are roe and sika deers, small wild boars, along with hares, badgers and raccoon dogs. Like other leopards it hides its prey to finish eating later.

The Amur leopard is nocturnal and solitary, but some males stay with the female after mating and may even help raise the cubs. They breed in the spring and early summer and the size of the litter ranges from 1-4 cubs. The cubs are weaned when they are three months old, and leave their mother when they are one-and-a-half to two years old. They attain sexual maturity at three years and are known to live for 10-15 years in the wild, but can in captivity live up to 20 years.

The Amur leopard is critically endangered with less than 40 individuals left. The threats to the Amur leopard is loss of habitat, less prey to kill, poaching and illegal trade and conflicts with humans.
