Description: North American river otters (Lontra canadensis) are semi-aquatic members of the weasel family. They can be found in any location where both permanent access to food and clean, open water. While mainly thought of as inland animals, these otters can be found in coastal habitats such as estuaries.

North American river otters are usually solitary animals, but groups composed of a mother and her young are often seen exhibiting playful behaviors such as mud and snow sliding.

Like most otters, North American river otters are fish eaters.
