Alectrosaurus

In the earlier part of the Late Cretaceous, China and Mongolia were populated
heavily by ceratopsians and hadrosaurs.  At this time, superefficient small
predators such as Velociraptor mongoliensis and Saurornithoides mongoliensis
were not yet present, nor were the gigantic Tarbosaurus species.  It was
during this time that the 'small' tyrannosaur Alectrosaurus olseni reigned.
Discovered by Gilmore in 1933, Alectrosaurus (whose name means 'unmarried
lizard') was built similarly to the American albertosaurs of the Late
Cretaceous.
