Glossy Ibis

The Glossy Ibis (scientific name Plegadis falcinellus) is a dark coloured
wading bird with a long, down-curved bill.  It belongs to the ibis family,
Threskiornithidae.  This family is related to the herons, and more distantly,
to the storks and cranes.  Their scientific name comes from a mixture of Greek
(plegados=a sickle) and Latin (falcis=sickle), referring to the shape of the
bill.
