Scarlet Ibis

The Scarlet Ibis (scientific name Eudocimus ruber) is a startlingly red
coloured wading bird with a long, down-curved bill.  It belongs to the ibis
family, Threskiornithidae. It belongs to the same order as herons, spoonbills,
and storks.  The Scarlet Ibis may form one of the most extraordinary sights in
the world.  This is because they often fly, feed and nest in vast groups.
Although some birds may disperse widely, many tropical birds remain within a
small area throughout their lives.
