Buru

A valley deep within the Himalaya Mountains may be home to a lizard-like
creature called buru, or at least until quite recently.  In the 1940's western
researchers began hearing rumors of a large reptile living in a Himalayan
valley. This high plateau was about twenty four miles square, and very swampy
and thickly forested and occupied by a people called the Apu Tanis. In 1947 a
Professor von Furer-Haimendorf visited this valley and was told by the natives
that the bottom of the valley was once a large marshy swamp inhabited by
lizard like monsters. A short time later another man, Charles Stoner, visited
the area and was also told by the natives that these creatures once frequented
the swamp, but were killed off in the recent past.
