Description: Vicunas belong to the camelid families living in the high Andes.
They are the smallest living species among the family Camelidae. Because of their very valuable fleece vicunas were nearly hunted to extinction by the late l970s. Some natives of the Andes and the Aymara still worship the vicuna as a daughter of the fertility goddess Pachamama.
